However, the cover art that they released seems an unusual choice:
Literally, Hurley from Lost. Just his face. His big ol' face.
Huh?
Ok. I'll be honest. I don't like Lost. I think it is a stupid, poorly constructed show with no explanations for anything. But this guy seems like a nice enough guy - like a teddy bear, really. If you were stranded in some sort of frozen tundra with Hurley and had nothing in which to sleep, he is the guy you would nestle yourself into, probably without sexy results.
Either way, I don't know if this is the best album art they could have chosen. Granted, Weezer has been less than hella creative with their cover art (the blue album was blue, the green album was green, etc.); but a picture of Hurley? Apparently Rivers Cuomo (the lead singer) is a fan of the show and says this about the art:
"I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia -- it just had this amazing vibe. We didn't want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as 'the Hurley record' even if we left it without that title, so we just called it 'Hurley.' No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face."Amazing face, people. His face is AMAZING. I can't say I'm particularly surprised that this is the cover art they have chosen; but I'm not sure if I agree it would be the best course of action. Maybe I'm just being old-fashioned. What do YOU think, huh?
This cover art also reminds me of the cover of my friends' band in highschool. The band was called The Cocks, and they only released an EP (if you could even call it that). It was pretty amazing stuff if I remember correctly.
